Yes, stress incontinence can occur in both women and men and it is possible to develop even if you have never given birth. While childbirth is a leading source of stress incontinence, age, lung diseases, and injuries/surgeries can also contribute. Some causes can include:

    • Aging – pelvic floor and urethra muscles weaken (women)
    • Lung conditions with frequent coughing – emphysema and cystic fibrosis (men & women)
    • Prostate surgery or pelvic fracture – damaged urinary sphincter (men)
