My mother’s neighbor suffers from chronic pain and the medicine she's taking doesn't work. My mother has improved greatly with her medication. Would it be bad to let her neighbor try her medicine?

This is not a good idea at all. Your neighbor’s doctor knows her health history, including any history of addiction, other medications being taken, and medication allergies or reactions. Even if your mom and her neighbor have pain in the same place, the underlying reason can be different. Do not share medications with others. Instead, encourage your mother’s neighbor to speak with her doctor about changing her treatment plan.
