Many caregivers are unaware about behaviors that could potentially cause more harm than good for their loved ones. Also, it can be tricky because many seniors will act reluctant to receiving assistance despite their need. Becoming too controlling as a caregiver is common for children or spouses that now care for someone who used to care for them. However, if you are finding yourself making decisions or speaking on behalf of them when they are still mentally and physically able, then you are essentially robbing them of their independence and their dignity.  Ask yourself how you would feel in the situation. If the mood, communication or health of your loved one is seeing a decline, you may want to rethink your role.
