Under Illinois law, an assisted living establishment or an assisted living facility is defined as community-based residential care providing services such as assistance with daily activities, supportive health-related care, and 24-hour supervision to a population of at least three adults of whom 80 percent must be 55 years of age or older. If the assisted living establishment provides the same assisted senior living services for a population of 16 or fewer adults of whom 80 percent must be 55 years of age or older, the establishment is deemed a “shared housing establishment”.
